Saudi Arabia’s permanent envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation said Wednesday that the Kingdom’s support for the Palestinian people comes from its genuine belief in the Palestinian cause.
Dr. Saleh Al-Suhaibani called the cause “the fundamental pillar of the OIC’s activities, a vital axis of its interests, and a sense of obligation mandated by its solid belief, conscience, and allegiance to its Arab and Islamic nation,” according to the Saudi Press Agency.
He repeated the Kingdom’s call to “intensify international efforts to end the conflict, improve the stability of the whole region, and help the Palestinian people, who still have trouble getting their legal rights.”
The Palestinian and Jordanian delegations asked for an extra meeting of the open-ended executive committee to be held in Jeddah on Tuesday to talk about the Israeli attacks on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in coordination with Saudi Arabia, which is in charge of the OIC summit and is also in charge of the executive committee.
Al-Suhaibani, who also presided over the meeting in the presence of OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha, stated that the incident “a few days ago in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, in terms of the storming of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli extremists, whatever their characteristics, cannot be viewed in isolation from the events that occurred twenty years ago when a senior Israeli official did the same thing.”
He stated that this resulted in the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians following the outbreak of the second Palestinian intifada, emphasizing that such dangerous developments necessitate a swift resolution of the current situation by the international community in order to prevent regional conflicts and confrontations.
“The Israeli occupation authorities warn against changing the historical and legal status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque, while the Kingdom maintains its firm position on the necessity to offer complete protection for it and cease significant abuses and provocations,” Al-Suhaibani added.
Saudi Arabia “holds those authorities fully responsible for any results or repercussions of the provocative policies and practices they take in the city of Jerusalem and the attacks on its people and sanctities,” he said. “They ultimately hurt international peace efforts and go against international principles and norms when it comes to religious sanctities.”
Al-Suhaibani talked about the Kingdom’s efforts to help the Palestinian cause. He also talked about how important this issue is to Arab and Islamic countries and how the Kingdom stands by the Palestinian people.
He said, “These brazen attacks are an insult to millions of Muslims, and they fuel conflict, extremism, and instability in the whole region. They also go against the relevant international resolutions.”
Al-Suhaibani said that the Kingdom is always trying to help find a fair and complete solution to the Palestinian problem, so that the Palestinians can have their own independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The Kingdom asked the rest of the world to act right away and force Israel to stop doing these things that are upsetting in order to get justice for the Palestinian people.
