Arshad Sharif, a well-known anchorman from Pakistan, was shot and killed in Kenya, his wife said on Twitter on Monday.
A well-known Kenyan newspaper said that the journalist was killed by police because they thought he was someone else.
Sharif’s talk show, Power Play, has been on the ARY news channel every Monday through Thursday for years.
It has been critical of Pakistan’s new Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and the military.
He was a harsh critic of the coalition and army that were in power at the time,
and he left the country in August after comments made by a politician on a news show he hosted were called “seditious” by the country’s media regulator and government.

A few weeks after the comments were said to be seditious and the channel’s license was taken away, it announced in August that it was breaking up with Sharif.
Police told that Sharif and his driver were on their way from Magadi town to Nairobi when they were stopped at a police roadblock.
The killing would be looked into by Kenya’s Independent Police Oversight Authority, the newspaper said.
“We will give more information later,” a senior Kenyan police officer was quoted as saying.
