The Dua of Ashura is recommended to be read on the 9th or 10th day of Muharram, especially on the 10th. The name “Ashura” means the tenth day of Muharram. It’s believed that if someone recites or listens to this Dua from sunrise to sunset on Ashura Day, their life will be protected for the rest of the year.
After reciting the Dua of Ashura, recite this seven times
The first Dua should be read once, and the second should be read seven times.
According to a Hadith, if someone prays four Nafl rakahs with Ayat-ul-Kursi after Surah Fatiha and recites Surah Ikhlas three times, they will get whatever they ask from Allah (SWT).
It’s also Sunnah to fast on the day of Ashura. Check your Islamic calendar for the correct date in your area.
Scholars like Ash-Shafi’i, Ishaq, and Ahmed have said that fasting is recommended on both the 9th and 10th days of Muharram. The Prophet (PBUH) fasted on the 10th and intended to fast on the 9th as well.
Based on this, it’s best to fast on both the 9th and 10th of Muharram. The more fasting during Muharram, the better. The Prophet (PBUH) said that fasting on Ashura wipes away minor sins from the past year (Muslim).”
