DIFC Islamic Finance Conference 2026: What to Watch on October 7

Tomorrow, October 7, Dubai hosts one of the Islamic finance industry’s most important annual gatherings — the 16th Annual Islamic Finance Conference, organized by the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) together with S&P Global Ratings.

The half-day event runs from 8:30am to 1:00pm Gulf time (9:30am–2:00pm Pakistan time) at The Atrium in DIFC’s Gate District, bringing together bankers, investors, regulators, and scholars to discuss where Islamic finance is heading in 2026 and 2027.

What is on the agenda

The program focuses on the industry outlook at a time of higher interest rates and shifting global markets. A headline panel titled “Islamic Finance 2026–2027: Navigating Rough Waters,” moderated by Rawan Oueidat, will look at how Islamic banks and sukuk issuers are adapting.

Speakers announced for the event include Alya Al Zarouni and Hadi Melki, alongside senior figures from the regional finance industry.

Why it matters

The conference comes at a strong moment for the industry. Sukuk — Islamic bonds — took 44% of all Gulf debt sales in the third quarter of 2026, a sharp jump from 15% in the previous quarter, according to recent market data. With Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the UAE all active issuers, the discussions in Dubai this week could set the tone for Islamic capital markets heading into 2027.

What to watch

  • The 2026–2027 outlook panel: expect views on sukuk pipelines and investor demand.
  • Regulatory direction: how Gulf regulators plan to deepen Islamic capital markets.
  • Key takeaways: AZ Official will cover the main announcements after the event.

The conference is open to industry participants, and DIFC has published the official program on its website.
