Tunisia (AA): In Tunisia, tensions are rising after a Muslim
the preacher was fired for reading verses from the Noble Quran,
which is Islam’s holy book, about a “coup.”

Mohammed Zain al-Din, a 60-year-old preacher from the eastern province of Nabeul,
told local media that he read the verses last week
during prayer in front of Minister of Religious Affairs Ibrahim al-Shaibi.

After the prayer, Zain al-Din said that the minister told
him to avoid these verses because the North African country
is in the middle of a very bad political crisis.

The preacher was given a 10-day respite without explanation.
He also said that the government later told him he could go back to work.
The Tunisian government did not say anything about the claim.

Since last year, when President Kais Saied fired the government,
suspended parliament, and took over executive power,
Tunisia has been in a deep political crisis that has hurt the country’s economy.

Even though Saied says that his actions were meant to “save” the country,
some people have said that he was planning a coup.
