around the globe are configured to allow pilgrims to
the Grand Mosque can get cool fresh air.

Sultan bin Ati Al-Qurashi, the undersecretary-general for Technical,
Operational Affairs Maintenance and Facilities Management
said that one is in Shamiya which is 900 meters from
the Grand Mosque and uses up to 159,000
refrigeration tonnes of energy.
The other one is 500 meters away in Ajyad.

It can use as much energy as 39,000 refrigeration tonnes.
Al-Qurashi said that the stations work by cooling the water
in the system to about 4 or 5 degrees Celsius.
The water is then sent to the Air Handling Units where it is passed over
by hot air from the mosque.
The cool air is then pumped through
systems that clean the air and into the mosque.
