Tehran Protesters Fight The Islamic Republic’s Crackdown

Thursday night, there were more anti-government protests in Tehran. This comes as Iran’s ruling clerics step up their crackdown on opposition voices and ongoing protests all over the country.

When the power went out for a long time in Parand, which is southwest of Tehran, people took to the streets and chanted slogans against the government. People in several neighbourhoods in Tehran, including Ponak, Bagh-e-Faiz, Tehran Pars, and Bagheri town, also protested overnight.

Protesters ignored the government’s efforts to shut them down and wrote anti-establishment slogans in the subway.

People could hear them chanting “Death to the dictator” and “Death to the republic of executions,” which were about the clerical leadership and the recent killings of protesters. They also chanted slogans against the Islamic Revolutionary Guards.

Residents chanted from balconies.

After the September 16, 2022 death of 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini in policy prison for “poor hijab,” the authorities have cracked down on countrywide protests.

Iranians are still protesting the Islamic Republic’s 43-year reign after four months of executions, huge arrests, and repression.

Tehran authorities seem increasingly scared by the extent and intensity of the popular rebellion against their authority and increasingly merciless in their attempts to destroy it.

According to human rights organisations, security forces have killed over 500 people, including dozens of children, and arrested over 18,000.

According to one rights group, at least 100 demonstrators are currently in risk of “execution, death penalty charges or sentences.”

Approximately twenty people have been sentenced to death as a result of the protests. Four individuals have been executed despite international condemnation. And numerous prisoners have been given lengthy prison terms.
