JEDDAH — The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia announced on Thursday

that the first day of the month of Muharram will be Saturday, July 30.

This will mark the start of the new Hijri year of 1444, according to

the Umm al-Qura calendar. New Hijri Year Starts Saturday  Says Supreme Court

The court said that the crescent of the month of Muharram had not been

seen on Thursday. According to the Saudi Press Agency,

this means that Friday, July 29, will be the 30th day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah 1443.

So, the Ashura fast on the 10th of Muharram will be on Monday, August 8.
