RIYADH: On Monday, the Kaaba was cleaned and its Kiswa was perfumed in preparation for the last ten days of Ramadan.

Starting on Tuesday, the last ten days of the holy month begin. During this time, Muslims pray more often in preparation for Laylat Al-Qadr, the holiest night in the Islamic calendar.

Laylat Al-Qadr is the night when the Qur’an was first shown to the Prophet Muhammad. This is thought to have happened on one of the last 10 nights of Ramadan, but no one knows which one.

Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, who is the president of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, was in charge of the maintenance. He said that the Saudi government cares a lot about the Kaaba because of its importance in Islam.

He also said that the best kinds of perfume are used to scent the Kaaba, and the best silk is used to make the Kiswa.
