Officials and state-run media reported that suspected Islamic terrorists killed at least four persons, including three police officers, at a police checkpoint in Ismailia, Egypt, on Friday.

The attack also hurt 12 other people, most of whom were conscripts who were taken to the hospital, according to a list of casualties kept at a hospital.

A hospital document showed that among the dead were three police officers and a person who has not yet been named.

Security officers on the western bank of the Suez Canal said the attack occurred in the late afternoon in Ismailia city. The Ismailia media office called the attack a terrorist attack.

State-run Al-Qahera A new TV report said that one of the attackers was killed by security forces. It showed graphic footage of a dead militant’s body, which it said was his body.

No one said they were behind the attack.

In the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt has been fighting the extremist group Islamic State for years. The militants have done a lot of attacks in Sinai and other parts of the country. Most of the time, they go after security forces, Christians, and people they think are working with the military or police.
In May, militants attacked a water pumping station east of the Suez Canal, killing at least 11 Egyptian soldiers, including an officer.

Since February 2018, when the military started a big operation in Sinai, parts of the Nile Delta, and the deserts along the country’s western border with Libya, Daesh attacks have slowed down to a trickle.
