Demolition of Muslim homes In India Is
Condemned By The United Nations
The United Nations strongly denounced the arbitrary demolitions of Muslim homes
and properties in India in April and May this year, citing the alleged involvement
of local governments in communal conflicts. Demolition of Muslim Homes in India
In a joint letter to the Indian government, three UN Special Rapporteurs on
Housing, Minorities, and Freedom of Religion severely condemned
and denounced the demolitions. The demolitions were carried out without due
process or evidence of guilt,
According to the special rapporteurs “Collective punishment” was
imposed on Muslim minorities.
The reporters have asked the Indian government to divulge
the reasons for its actions, and the investigations it performed if the impacted groups consulted beforehand.
Local governments in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and
Delhi demolished Muslims’ homes and properties.
